Night Chants
Peregrine Medieval Vocal Ensemble with Cheryl Ann Fulton (harp)
Artists in Residence at St. Mark's Cathedral ~ $16.00
The Gregorian chants on this CD come from the monastic Matins service honoring the feast of All Saints. Matins is a prayer service held in the pre-dawn stillness. It is one of eight set times of prayer (the Divine Office) that were sung daily in medieval monasteries. Consisting of psalms, hymns, readings and other prayers, it was the most extensive of medieval liturgical forms: musically rich, and sung at an unhurried pace.
